ABSTRACT
Structural funds are financial instruments, administered by the European Commission, aiming to
help member states by investing in education, agriculture, infrastructure and creating mechanisms
for developing the rural regions. This paper tries to argue how important are structural funds for
Romania, a country which has to reduce the severe discrepancies between itself and other member
states of the EU. Cluj County is a very good example in this case because its accelerated
development in the last few years is mainly due to the insertion of the structural funds.
